Recorded Books

OVERVIEW

Website: https://rbmediaglobal.com/recorded-books/

Recorded Books published ~950 eAudiobooks in the last year. Its website states:

Our content spans all high-demand fiction and nonfiction genres, including romance, business, comedy, education, mystery, sci-fi/fantasy, biography, classics, and children’s titles.

  • eBooks: RB does not publish in the eBook format

  • eAudio: the standard eAudio license allows one loan at a time and does not expire. At an average price of $86.35, it exceeds the average price of the retail eAudio price ($28.82) for a markup of 200%. Since the license does not expire, some libraries may consider the price acceptable for books that are likely to be popular for decades, but several other publishers offer better value for perpetual use eAudio.

NOTES
Concurrent use: Recorded Books offers a concurrent use license in addition to the perpetual use license on select titles. The license, which they call "Metered Access: 100 checkouts (concurrent users)” offers 100 simultaneous use checkouts. It is priced at 160% of the perpetual use license. So The Duke and I in the Bridgerton series has a perpetual use license that costs $109.00 and a “MACU” license for $174.40. A cost-per-circ of $1.74 is comparable to the costs of titles in the Cost-Per-Circ section and the model can be useful for titles that surge in popularity. Libraries may prefer to spend a little more per user and clear out the holds queue rather than licensing dozens of copies they are unlikely to need in the future.

OVERDRIVE ADVANCED SEARCH

It is not always always possible to search OverDrive by publisher in a way that will capture all titles. The searches below should find the bulk of them.

  • eAudio: in the Publisher Account field, select “Recorded Books, LLC”
